Not so long ago, UNESCO decided to add the Georgian method of winemaking to the list of the intangible heritage of mankind. If the wort is kept in barrels all over the world, then in this Caucasian country, and more precisely in its region of Kakheti, huge clay jugs - qvevri - are used in production. The pulp is folded into giant, two meters high, amphoras, after which they are buried in the ground. Stony ground and sharp fluctuations in the mountain climate create unique wines of Georgia. Each variety has its own flavor palette, aroma, history. Arriving in this sunny hospitable region, the main thing is not to get confused and choose from excellent and just good drinks (because there are simply no bad wines here) are the best.
Dry vintage
Georgia has adopted the old Soviet classification of wines. Therefore, the word "vintage" means the acronym DOC adopted in Western Europe , which means "quality control by origin." Thus, it is noted that the vines for the manufacture of this drink grow only in this region, and nowhere else. These are the best wines of Georgia. Of the white varieties, one cannot fail to mention the pride of the country and the laureate of numerous international contests "Tsinandali". Gurjaani is just as wonderful. , "Tibaani" and "Manavi."

Vintage red wines of Georgia also beyond praise. Dry gold Teliani won four gold and six silver medals at international competitions. Here is a striking example of how a typical French Cabernet Sauvignon vine variety in a sunny mountainous region produces clusters with an unusual taste of ripe cherries and the smell of violets. Not much inferior to “Teliani” and “Napareuli”, “Kvareli”, Mukuzani. All these high-quality products are aged in oak barrels for at least three years.
Ordinary wines of Georgia
These drinks with a small amount of sugar (dry), although they do not stand as long as vintage, and are made from pulp, and not from wort, are nevertheless very worthy. Kakheti and Shuamta undergo fermentation in clay qvevri. Saperavi is a local variety of vines grown specifically for these soils, climate, and relief. The clusters ripen late, which gives this wine a dry note of autumn. But that is not all.
Semi-dry and semi-sweet wines of Georgia
From the first cohort you can recommend white Tbilisuri, pink Sachino and red
"Pirosmani".
Saperavi grapes and new European technologies are used in their production. But for semi-sweet alcoholic drinks, very regional varieties of berries are taken. Therefore, the wine “Tishi”, “Tetra” and “Savana” (white), as well as “Khvanchkara”, “Kindzmarauli” and “Akhasheni” (red) are considered vintage.
Dessert and liquor wines of Georgia
Contrary to popular belief that the country does not produce sweet alcoholic beverages, they are still there, and very good. “Anaga” reminds Madeira to its taste - dark amber, rich, with a long finish with hints of almond and chocolate. "Saamo" is drunk easily, although it is fraught with seventeen degrees. Pomegranate Salkhino is a typical liquor wine, as is white Khikhvi.
In a word, make a choice and enjoy it!
