It’s not such a simple matter - realistically convincing to draw a bird. This is very difficult work of the Almighty ... Already if only because it can fly. A bird in flight and the same bird sitting quietly on a branch is far from the same thing. And yet we will try. And before we swing at other birds, we will think about how to draw a rook. We chose it for its relative simplicity of form and monotonous coloring, which does not distract the inexperienced eye with the brightness of its plumage.
How to draw a rook?
Thoughtfully, consistently and purposefully. We draw the bird in stages. We analyze its shape. We outline the large contours of the main masses with light strokes, build a structural framework and cover it all with plumage. Even at the stage of the general layout of the future drawing, we do not forget about the movement or balance of the bird. Carefully verify the proportions of the main parts, adjust them if necessary with an elastic band and a pencil. Any realistic drawing is based on correctly taken proportional relationships. And only after we make sure of their correctness, we can move on and understand the problem of how to draw a rook.

At this stage, we carefully work out the details and nuances. In no case do we try to mechanically accurately redraw onto the paper all the small details that open up to our eyes. The graphic image differs in that from photography in analysis and careful selection of details. Therefore, from the whole set of details we focus only on those that seem bright and characteristic to us. Everything that emphasizes the visible form and gives it a linear and three-dimensional expressiveness. As you move the picture to the final stage, you need to look at it whole and generalized, without fixing your eyes on the little things. We try to summarize the bird's figure with wide, light strokes and give it a complete look. Particular attention should be paid to the fact that it surrounds, the bird should be in its natural habitat. We meticulously examine our work and analyze how successfully we have accomplished the task of drawing a rook.
And now we will observe other birds
There are a lot of them around us. If we try to draw them, we will make sure that they have much in common with the rook known to us. But two identical birds do not exist, all have their own characteristics. And these features are easiest to figure out by drawing short sketches and sketches. These drawings are simple, in several lines. Let them be even inaccurate and cartoonish. But such short “handwriting” allows you to grasp the characteristic features of the depicted nature. This is what immediately catches your eye when looking at a new subject of graphic study. And on the basis of the most successful sketches, we should proceed to more thorough work. Of particular interest are birds in flight. Often the techniques of such graphics are conditional and already worked out. Many artists painted birds, the results of their works we see from childhood, when we watch cartoons. And this graphic is often very expressive. There is no reason not to take this experience into service.
