Chewing gum "Turbo": a detailed description and secrets of popularity

Those who are now about forty years old remember exactly what “Turbo” chewing gum is. Why is this product so remarkable and why do many consider it a true attribute of the last century?

Interesting to know

Chewing gum "Turbo" for many is a memory of a distant childhood. Of course, because in the late eighties she was the subject of dreams of every teenager of the former USSR. At that time, our industry did not produce such products. This caused even greater interest in the product. In the early nineties, chewing gum "Turbo" has become especially popular.

For children, it was both a food product and a pleasant pastime. The guys enjoyed the pleasant taste of chewing gum and competed with each other in the art of blowing bubbles. In each child’s pocket, one could find these small fragrant “pillows” in bright, colorful wrappers. Initially, Turbo chewing gum was produced only with peach flavor. Other fruit flavors later appeared. This aroused even greater interest. The popularity of a simple, at first glance, product grew every day. This excitement continued until the beginning of the 2000s, until the famous Wrigley, Stimorol, Dirol and Orbit came to replace the favorite “pillows”.

Nice addition

But the interest of children was not only the product itself. They were also attracted by the surprise, which was under the wrapper. This is what Turbo chewing gum was distinguished by. Inserts were color photographs of various cars and motorcycles.

Most of them have never appeared on our roads. Therefore, such pictures were the only way to see such chic models. Naturally, they were of particular interest to the boys. In addition to the colorful image, each insert contained a serial number and minimal information about a particular car. Different types of cars were presented in the photo, which enabled the children to collect whole thematic collections. Depending on the types of vehicles shown on the liners, the manufacturer has released three versions of chewing gum:

  1. Super
  2. Classic.
  3. Sport.

Each of them contained a certain number of models. In an effort to assemble a complete collection, the guys exchanged similar pictures. Such communication was another nice bonus.

Bright wraps

Ghost wrappers from Turbo chewing gum were also collectibles. Both boys and girls did this. True, the collection turned out, as a rule, small. After all, bright wraps differed exclusively in color. And there were only four of them:

  • red;
  • blue;
  • yellow;
  • green.

The candy wrapper itself contained a minimum of information. Those samples that were found on the territory of the former Union usually included:

  • address of the manufacturer;
  • the inscription soft bubble gum, which means "soft chewing gum";
  • product name;
  • the inscription no sticking, which translates as “unsticked”;
  • mark new, which means "new";
  • flags with a pattern of black and white squares, which are used to signal the start of the race of the race.

Collecting such collections in those days was not easy. Similar products in the retail network were expensive. Therefore, few could afford to buy them in whole packages. Usually, children bought bubble gum with pocket money received from their parents, or received as a reward. But this only contributed to the growth of desire of small collectors.

Manufacturing company

Few people know where the Turbo gum actually began to be produced for the first time. The manufacturer of this popular product is the Turkish corporation Kent Gida. Studying the market and the wishes of customers, the company management came to the conclusion that the frames from the cartoons and decals that were previously used in the chewing gum "Donald" lost their former interest. Children always want something new. For a product to be purchased, it must be somewhat different from the rest.

Original inserts just became that highlight that allowed the new product to adequately present itself in the market. Constantly conducting marketing research, the company’s specialists eventually realized that interest in classic car models has fallen significantly. Therefore, in 1999, the release of the Classic series was discontinued. And in 2008, the product was completely discontinued. Only five years later, the new Turkish company PowerGum received all the rights to the famous brand and continued to release the popular chewing gum in the same format.
