Pubic Bone: Anatomy and Physiology

The pubic bone is formed by three parts: the body of the pubic bone, the upper and lower branches of the pubic bone. In fact, when spliced, it forms the pelvic bone. The thickness of the presented bone reaches 2-3 centimeters. The pubic bone hangs over the entrance to the vagina in the form of a kind of arch. The edges of the pubic bone fuse with the bones of the pelvis.

Quite often, pregnant women have a pubic bone pain. In some women, the pubis has the shape of a saber-shaped bar, the width of which is equal to the thickness of three to four fingers, so it closes the lumen of the vestibule by about 50%. If the pubic bone in women has exactly the same shape, then its lower edge is an obstacle, which also causes acute pain when entering the vagina of the penis. The pain intensifies when the penis presses on the periosteum, while pressing the urethra to the edge of the pubic bone. This is a very painful pain recurring with each sexual intercourse. Some women complain of pain in the pubic bone, which appears some time after giving birth. This is a clinic of symphysiolysis formed as a result of the discrepancy of the pubic bones. Symphysis rupture is very painful. In this situation, the patient is bandaged and complete peace is provided.

A fracture of the pubic bone, as a rule, occurs when the pelvis is squeezed or when it hits the pubis. Quite often, such a fracture is accompanied by displacement. Patients complain of pain localized in the fracture zone, which increases with palpation or with movement of the legs. This type of fracture is often accompanied by a contusion of the bladder. In this case, there is a bladder dysfunction.

Pubic bone: fracture treatment

The first thing to do after a fracture of the pubis is to anesthetize this area. For this, solutions of local anesthetics are used. A unilateral fracture of the pubic bone requires the patient to be laid in a supine position. In order to unload the leg muscles, a Beller splint is applied. Bed rest is observed for up to one month. In case of a bilateral fracture of the pubic bone, the patient should be in the “frog position” for a month (the patient lies on his back, legs are bent at the knees and hips, the feet are brought together, the knees are turned and the hips are turned outwards). Under the hip and knee joints, special rollers are placed. The patient should lie on a special orthopedic bed. Prescribe medical procedures and physiotherapy. Two months later, a full load on the limbs is allowed.

If your pubic bone hurts during pregnancy, it has become more difficult for you to walk up the stairs, there is a duck gait, pain when turning on the bed - these are clear signs of symphysitis.

The etiology of the disease has not yet been clarified. There is an opinion that the development of the disease is associated with a violation of calcium-phosphorus metabolism in the body, some scientists argue that the etiology of this pathology is associated with an increased concentration of relaxin in the blood. Probably, symphysitis is caused by anthropogenic indicators of a woman or heredity. It should be noted that symphysitis does not affect the development of future crumbs. Some time after birth, the problem resolves itself. If you find a characteristic symptom of symphysitis, consult a doctor, he will prescribe the appropriate treatment. In this case, you need to analyze your diet. Patients undergo complex therapy: vitamin-mineral complex, special exercises aimed at strengthening the muscles of the pelvis, lower back and hips.
