In 2012, the fourth part of the paranomal epic from the creative union of directors Henry Just and Eriel Schulman was released. In the film, compared with the previous parts, much has changed, including the actors. "Paranormal Phenomenon 4" demonstrates the actions of the tireless poltergeist, which almost no longer scare.
Nevertheless, despite the presence of logical roughnesses in the narrative and the ragged ending, the picture cannot be called hopelessly bad. This, of course, is not capitalized art, but viewing is slowly addictive.
Almost a sequel
The movie “Paranormal Phenomenon 4” can be called a sequel to the second part of the same name, since the picture unfolds 5 years after the events that occurred in the second episode of “Phenomenon”. Viewers familiar with the plot of previous parts of the film will be pleasantly surprised. Finally, the creators decided to shed light on the disappearance of baby Hunter and his own aunt Katie. Cadres of family chronicle and begins the narration of the film "Paranormal Phenomenon 4". Actors and roles will also seem familiar to fans, especially Katie Featherstone. The actress played the role of Katie in the second, third, fourth and fifth episode of the franchise.
Plot
Further, the narrative is carried over to 2011. The main characters are the Nelson family - father Doug (Stephen Dunham), his wife Holly (Alexondra Lee), their own daughter Alex (Catherine Newton) and, as it turned out, the adopted son Wyatt (Aiden Lovecamp). Their neighbors, by the will of fate, were the very same Robbie (Brady Allen) and Katie (Katie Featherstone). One day, Katie goes to the hospital, and the Nelsons decide to shelter a neighbor's boy for a while in their house. From this moment, increased paranormal activity begins in their home . Worried, Alex convinces his boyfriend Ben (Matt Shivley) to place webcams throughout the house. What is imprinted on the record is inexplicable, but terrible. And very soon, all family members will have to get to know these entities better.
Casting cast
The actors of the film “Paranormal Phenomenon 4” are represented by three generations of hypocrites. The most experienced in the film were actors Stephen Dunham and Alexondra Lee, who performed the roles of parents - the four Nelsons. Curious, but they are in real life a married couple. Unfortunately, Stephen Dunham did not live up to the premiere of the picture: he died of a heart attack on his 48th birthday. The American actor starred in dozens of TV shows and movies, the most famous of which are "The Mummy", "Anger Management", "Traffic", "If the mother-in-law is a monster ...", "Particularly Dangerous." His widow, Alexondra Lee, is known to the viewer on the projects “What Women Want”, “Saleswoman”, “Law of Los Angeles”, “Fencers Outpost”, “Thirty-Something”.
Generational change
The middle link of the stage masters was represented by Katherine Newton and Matt Shivley, young and promising actors. “Paranormal Phenomenon 4” was a good step in Katherine's career ladder, which debuted in a big movie in 2001. The image of Alex became her first major role. Until this time, Newton starred in commercials and TV shows. Her game looks pretty natural, although the character sometimes does real fire stupid things. The finale looks especially ridiculous when Alex runs in horror from impending mortal danger, but holds the camera pretty evenly in front of his nose.
Matt made his film debut in the movie "The Grave" in 2007, and he also dubbed the cartoon "Winx Club". The viewer is better known for the actor on the series "Tru Jackson" on Nickelodeon. The youngest on the set were Brady Allen and Aiden Lovecamp, still very children, nevertheless already experienced actors. Paranormal Phenomenon 4 was not their debut.
Aiden starred in the series "CSI", the films "Forever", "Lonely Boy". Brady Allen managed to combine shooting in the fourth part of a terrible franchise with the participation in the production of the series "American Horror Story" and "It Happens and Worse." These are such small, but already professional actors. “Paranormal Phenomenon 4” generally has decent casting, and casting and characterization is the result of fruitful work by the entire group of filmmakers.
Other movie features
Considering that the film “Paranormal Phenomenon 4” received mixed reviews (most of them were negative), the picture has the necessary set of genre techniques. Cameraman Doug Emmett brilliantly used moments of surprise, causing fright. Separate scenes are saturated with suspense to the limit (like a scene with a knife). As in other parts of the franchise, the authors left all the most terrible and "tasty" to the finals. Therefore, the climax episodes are saturated with events to the eyeballs, the tension increases with each subsequent moment.
Another feature of the fourth part is the appearance of the Microsoft Kinect game controller for the Xbox, or rather, the direct use of the Kinect sensor as a device for tracking and detecting paranormal activity.
Budget
Financing the picture is impossible to call impressive, the budget in comparison with other Hollywood horror is very small. But this is an insignificant minus. Most viewers go to the movies because of the intriguing trailer. Others, before going to the premiere, will surely find out who the author of the film, the director, and which actors are removed. This tape did not collect full halls in the USA, but at the box office it more than paid off.
Summary
The fourth part of the franchise has a plot similar to the previous parts and closely related to previous episodes. There are innovations in the technique of shooting and detecting poltergeist activity. The cover of the unknown rises above the old secrets, a new intrigue sets in. Therefore, the picture can be recommended at least for a one-time viewing, especially for fans of the horror genre. However, while watching the film, the beholder does not leave the feeling that the franchise authors use its success for their own enrichment, remaking and updating the idea that the viewer liked.
