The mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus can become inflamed on its own, but more often the causes of sinusitis are previous flu, runny nose, scarlet fever, measles and other infectious diseases. Sometimes the disease can be a consequence of the destruction of the upper molars. The maxillary sinus is filled with mucus, pus or serous fluid, its lumen is significantly reduced.
Symptoms of sinusitis in the acute stage are severe nasal congestion, loss of smell, general weakness, high body temperature, fear of bright light, headache that radiates to the temple, teeth, and forehead, and slight swelling of the cheeks. In addition, there is a quick fatigue from intellectual work.
Symptoms of chronic sinusitis are the same, but not so pronounced. Headache, as well as an increase in temperature, may be absent altogether, however, nasal breathing remains difficult, the sense of smell is reduced, and partially lost working capacity.
In no case can you ignore the symptoms of sinusitis and let the disease go by itself, since its chronic course often leads to the formation of polyps - when the mucous membrane grows so much that it becomes visible in the outer opening of the nose. There is an even more serious and even life-threatening complication - inflammation of the meninges.
You should especially be careful not to miss the symptoms of sinusitis in childhood, when all the systems and organs of the child are formed. If he often has to breathe air through his mouth, this will entail a number of disorders: improper development of the chest, facial skeleton, improper tooth growth; upset memory, hearing, attention. Thus, the slightest difficulty in breathing freely through the nose should be the reason for going to the doctor.
In the conservative treatment of purulent sinusitis in the acute and chronic stages, solutions with antiseptic properties are used. Most often, 5 to 10 ml of dioxidine solution (1%) is injected into the sinus with a puncture. Such treatment is not always successful, since the solution kills gram-negative bacteria, and the disease is caused more often, on the contrary, cocci are gram-positive, which are completely immune to the drug. Moreover, for a stronger effect of the drug, it is necessary that it lingers in the sinuses of the nose for at least two hours (ideally, for a day), which is absolutely impossible, since it will inevitably flow out through natural openings.
And yet, the people do not pay attention to these moments and use Dioxidin for sinusitis on their own, mixing it with hydrocortisone (one ampoule), shaking and dripping into each nostril two drops three times a day. It is necessary to store the product in the refrigerator, before use it is necessary to warm and shake in the hand. It is not recommended to treat them with sinusitis in children under the age of twelve.
From folk remedies that are safe for everyone, you can advise inhalation from honey. In addition, they will be useful to those who suffer from frontal sinusitis, laryngitis, polysinusitis, common cold and even bronchial asthma. It is very convenient to use a special device for inhalation. But if it is not, you can use the old proven method: boil water with honey in a saucepan, cover yourself over it with your head (covering the edges of the container with a towel) and inhale. So that hot steam does not burn the mucous membranes, you need to wait until it cools slightly. At first, the body can react painfully to such a procedure, this indicates that its defenses have intensified. Soon, the paranasal sinuses will begin to be intensively cleansed of pus.
An effective treatment for sinusitis, preventing the transition of inflammation into a chronic form, is facilitated by contacting a doctor at the first symptoms.
