Even though cheese is a high-calorie product, it is very healthy. Most often it is made from cow, sheep, goat and camel milk, although it can also be prepared from the milk of any mammal. No one can reliably state when and how the first cheese was obtained.
What is the story of this unique product? It is believed that the involuntary creators of the most valuable product were Bedouins who traveled long distances in the heat. Naturally, they took with them a supply of products, among which was milk poured into leather bags. What happened after a long trip and a shaking road in Bedouin bags was called cheese. The monks of the Middle Ages went further and learned to salt, smoke, plant useful mold on it.
Along with bread, cheese is considered the oldest product on earth that man made. For centuries, it remained a staple food. Often travelers took only bread, cheese and a bottle of wine on the road . And in our time, cheese remains one of the most valuable foods in the human diet. It contains proteins and fats, vitamins A and B, it is easily absorbed by the human body.
Cheese Maasdam is one of the most popular and famous
cheeses of Dutch cheese makers.
It got its name from a small town of the same name. This cheese is prepared from the same raw materials as Swiss, but it is more humid and ripens faster, so it turns out to be very juicy and soft. The creators of this variety sought to create a competitor to the famous Emmental cheese. It was not possible to achieve this, but a new tasty and fragrant Maasdam cheese appeared.
The admirer of the variety was Great Peter - the Russian emperor who first tried it in Holland. The gentle taste and delicate aroma of this cheese conquered the emperor, however, some holes were perceived by the large holes piercing the Maasdam cheese, and it was even suggested that the gluttonous rodents were their culprits. Soon, Russian merchants along with other Dutch cheeses began to import this variety into Russia.

Maasdam - cheese is not very fatty. It is made from cow's milk and has a traditional taste with a slightly sweet touch. It has a perfectly smooth crust surface with a yellowish tint and a lighter main cheese mass. It is possible to cover the crust with wax, as in Gouda. It is well, softly cut, belongs to semi-solid grades. Maasdam cheese is easy to see on crowded counters, among others, because it has large holes characteristic of Maasdam only, about three centimeters in diameter. Their size depends on whether the cheese is ripe. If the holes do not exceed thirty millimeters, then the cheese is still too young.
This low-calorie product, the Dutch Maasdam cheese, will not do any harm to your figure. The benefit from him is great. It contains beneficial bacteria, minerals and vitamins. Cheese can be eaten as an independent snack. It goes well with dry wine, honey, olives, tomatoes and fruits. Maasdam is used for cooking casseroles, a variety of sauces.
