Many people wonder where the phrase "Guys, let's live together." It has long been winged, but not everyone remembers its author. It was invented by the screenwriter Arkady Haight, who created the cat Leopold. Let's recall a little about the life of this wonderful person.
Childhood
Arkady Haight was born in the Russian capital on December 25, 1938. His father was engineer Joseph Haight. He used to live in Odessa with his wife, but shortly before the birth of his son, they moved to Moscow and settled in a spacious communal apartment.

From early childhood, Arkady was surrounded by the care of many people: mother, father, brother, as well as neighbors. In an unremarkable communal apartment, a real talent grew - a person who in the future will write a huge number of funny texts, scripts for theater performances, stories for the TV magazine "Wick", the program "Baby Monitor" and "Jumble". Arkady's father loved to joke, but his humor was truly refined, although sharp enough. Thus, the boy developed a good taste from an early age, and a certain amount of vanity and obstinacy were traced in his character; these qualities later helped him become famous. Arkady, the youngest child in the family, did not want to be the last in anything. If, for example, he once lost, then he made a firm promise that the next time this would not happen again. But the boy at the same time was very kind, and even then, apparently, in any quarrel with friends he repeated: "Guys, let's live in peace." Interestingly, the most successful brainchild of Arkady Haight was not popular funny texts and monologues written for famous comedians, but the scripts for the animated films “Cat Leopold” and “Well, wait a minute!”.
Hight and Reznikov cooperation
In 1974, a historic event happened. Arkady Khait and director Anatoly Reznikov met.
The latter was inspired by the dizzying success of “Well, wait a minute!” and planned to create another cartoon. He had some thoughts about this, but he could not do anything on his own. Then a friend of Reznikov, Boris Savelyev (by the way, a famous composer), whom we know thanks to the "Radionyan", arranged this momentous meeting. So the cat was created Leopold. "Guys let's be friends!" - soon these words were heard by millions of children.
Original design
Reznikov said that he and Haight had a great idea - to make a plot-changeling, where not a cat will chase mice, but vice versa. Indeed, a great design. Soon Reznikova was visited by the main idea that was the basis of his brainchild: peace should reign in any society and at any time, and everyone should strive for this. The authors thought how to show it on the screen, and soon decided that the cat would say: “Guys, let's live together!” This phrase is extremely simple, but how much sense it makes!
Painstaking work
The first series was called “Leopold's Cat Revenge”, and the second - “Leopold and the Goldfish”, and they were created by the method of interchanges.
In other words, many small elements and characters were cut out. Then these drawings were laid out on glass and, slowly moving them, achieved the effect of movement. All these works were aimed at teaching children good. “Guys, let's live together,” should have sounded from the screen in every episode.
Ban cartoon, resuming work on it
In 1976, the initial series was demonstrated at the Arts Council, after which they wanted to veto the cartoon. At that time, the chief editor of the commission was someone Zhdanova, and she decided: the creation can be considered pacifist, pro-Chinese and anti-Soviet.
She wondered: why didn’t the cat kill the mice, but decided to make peace with them? She was also embarrassed by the phrase "Guys, let's live together." However, at that time work was already underway on the next series, entitled "Leopold and the Goldfish", and it was nevertheless allowed to finish it, and then it was even broadcast on central television. By 1981, many letters of thanks had accumulated - the audience was delighted. And the authors returned to their brainchild, work began on new series.
And today, modern children enjoy watching this cartoon. “Guys, let's live together,” they repeat after Leopold, and this cannot but rejoice. Thanks to an intelligent cat, children from an early age begin to learn how to behave. Parents should be happy that there is such a cartoon that helps children develop in the right direction. This creation will never lose relevance.
