Metrogil (solution): indications for use

"Metrogil" is available in the form of a solution that is intended for infusion. The main active ingredient that is part of the Metrogil product (solution) is metronidazole, and citric acid monohydrate, water for injection, chloride and sodium hydrogen phosphate are used as excipients.

This medicine has anti-trichomonas, antiulcer, anti-alcohol, antiprotozoal and antimicrobial effects on the body.

Indications for use of the drug

The indicated remedy is prescribed in the presence of intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, cutaneous leishmaniasis, trichomonas urethritis and vaginitis, balantidiosis. Also, "Metrogil" (solution) is used in the treatment of meningitis, brain or lung abscess, infections of joints and bones, bacterial endocarditis, sepsis, empyema and pneumonia.

Used "Metrogil" for inhalation. To do this, it should be mixed with saline in a ratio of 1: 2.

The presence of an infection of the abdominal cavity, infection of the pelvic organs, pseudomembranous colitis is also an indication for the use of this drug. Use "Metrogil" (solution) and to prevent the occurrence of complications after surgery, especially with gynecological interventions and operations in the near-rectal region. For patients with tumors undergoing radiation therapy, the drug is used as a radiosensitizing drug.

"Metrogil" (solution): instructions for use

For adults and children over 12 years old, from 0.5 to 1 g of the drug can be started by drip, the duration of the infusion is about 30 minutes. After that, every 8 hours, 500 mg of this drug is administered at an average rate of 5 ml / min. If after the initial injection the patient tolerates Metrogil (solution) well, then after 3 infusions it is possible to start the injection of the indicated agent. The duration of such treatment is a week.

On the recommendation of a doctor, treatment can be continued for a longer period, but its daily dose cannot be higher than 4 grams. As a maintenance drug, it is administered three times a day, 400 mg each.

It is allowed to use this tool in the treatment of children who are less than 12 years old. In this case, the administration schedule is maintained, only a single dose should be no more than 7.5 mg / kg. In the presence of purulent-septic diseases, one course of treatment is enough.

As a prophylactic, the drug is administered intravenously before the operation, 0.5-1 ml, and 500 mg three times a day on the day of the operation and after it.

If the solution is used as a radiosensitizing agent, then it must be administered drip intravenously at the rate of 160 mg / kg about an hour before the start of the irradiation procedure. Then continue to take it for 1-2 weeks before the start of each exposure. A single dose of the drug is not more than 10 g, and for the entire course of the course it should not exceed 60 grams.

In the presence of cervical cancer or uterine body, skin cancer, Metrogil (solution) is used in the form of local applications. They are moistened with tampons, which are applied 1-2 hours before irradiation. If the tumor regression is poor, then they will be exchanged throughout the course of treatment, and if it is good, then only in the first two weeks.

Contraindications to the use of the drug "Metrogil" (solution)

Those are leukopenia, liver failure, hypersensitivity, lactation and the first trimester of pregnancy.

Side effects

After using this drug, diarrhea, intestinal colic, pancreatitis, dry mouth, stomatitis, glossitis and constipation may occur. Ataxia, insomnia, dizziness, peripheral neuropathy, hallucinations, skin hyperemia, arthralgia, depression, and seizures may also occur. In some cases, there may be negative manifestations such as urinary incontinence, polyuria, dysuria, cystitis, candidiasis and pain at the injection site.
