The film "X-Men 2" became one of the highest-grossing projects of 2003. It is a sequel to the action movie "X-Men", released in world hire in 2000.
The plot is based on a graphic novel by Chris Clairmont, the author of many comics about the X-Men.
Cast
3 years after the release of X-Men, the long-awaited sequel, X-Men 2, appeared on the screens. Actors from the first part of the franchise returned to their characters again. Hugh Jackman played Wolverine, Patrick Stewart - professors Charles Xavier, James Marsden - Scott Summers, Famke Janssen - Jean Gray, Anna Paquin - Rogue, Sean Ashmore - Bobby Drake.
Brian Cox, Kelly Hu and Alan Cumming, who performed the roles of Colonel Stryker, Yuriko Oyama and Kurt Wagner, respectively, were added to the familiar to the audience in the first part of the main cast.
Filming
Work on the X-Men sequel began back in 2000, but choosing the right plot took longer than expected. Several script versions were created that changed depending on the planned budget. Initially, in the movie "X-Men 2", the actors Tyler Mayne and Steve Bachich were supposed to play the roles of Sabretooth and the Beast, but their characters were cut out from the final version.
In one of the early versions of the script, the Archangel was present as an experimental mutant for Stryker experiments. But because of too many characters, it was decided to remove the scenes with his participation. The archangel appears in the next part of the franchise as one of the main characters.
In February 2002, the final script for the X-Men 2 project was ready. Actors James Marsden, Patrick Stewart and Halle Berry got more screen time due to their popularity after the release of the films "Route 60", "Star Trek" and "Monster's Ball".
The shooting took place in Vancouver. The filming process lasted five months (from June to November).
The script was worked by Michael Dougherty and David Hayter. The soundtrack to this picture, as to all Singer films, was written by John Ottman.
Awards and reviews from critics
Reviews for the film were mostly positive. It was noted that the picture turned out to be more spectacular and dynamic than the first part, and this is the rare case when the sequel is better than the original. Empire magazine called the film the best movie adaptation of comics in film history.
In 2004, the Saturn Award in the Best Sci-Fi Picture category went to the X-Men 2 project. Actors Anna Paquin and Sean Ashmore were nominated for the MTV Channel Award for Best Kiss.
