Tom Baker went down in the history of television as one of the audience’s most beloved performers in the science fiction series Doctor Who. In addition, he has accounted for more than forty other paintings, as well as numerous theatrical productions. He began his acting career at a relatively mature age, but this did not stop him from becoming famous not only in his homeland, but throughout the world.
early years
Back in 1934 in Liverpool in the history of the world began one amazing and fascinating biography. Tom Baker grew up in the family of explorer John Stuart Baker and the strict canteen Catholic, Mary Jane Baker. The father rarely appeared at home, so the mother was mainly engaged in raising children, of course, with a great deal of religiosity. Perhaps that is why at 15 years old the boy decided to leave school and take monastic tonsure, which caused sincere approval of the family. At the very height of the war, Tom Baker went to train at the monastery, but after 6 years he changed his mind about his future because he did not find enough strength in himself for such an ascetic life. Therefore, in 1955 he became an employee of the Royal Army Medical Corps, where he was until 1957. It was there that he first became interested in acting, playing in local amateur productions.
Carier start
After leaving the national service, he begins to study dramatic art at Rose Braford. There he makes rapid strides and very soon begins performing on various stages throughout England. He made his film debut in 1968 in the film "Winter's Tale", in which he plays a very insignificant role. However, 3 years later, the whole world finds out who Tom Baker is, whose filmography is replenished with the role of Rasputin in the famous film "Nikolai and Alexandra." Thanks to this, in 1971 he was immediately awarded two nominations for the Golden Globe, which, unfortunately, did not bring victories, but nevertheless, his figure now becomes public.
Featured Roles
Thanks to this triumph, his next film work was the film Canterbury Tales by Pier Paolo Pazzolini. In 1973, he starred in such films as The Crypt of Horror, Frankenstein: A True Story, and Sinbad's Golden Journey. Before becoming part of the longest science fiction series in history, he also appears in the film "Creator of Freaks" in 1974. In the same year, he was elected to the role of the Fourth Doctor, in whose image he stayed for seven years. After that, Tom Baker also continued to act in films and simultaneously work in the theater, but his subsequent projects did not bring such widespread fame. Among them can be distinguished such as “The Hound of the Baskervilles”, “Dungeon of Dragons”, “Medics”, “Canterbury Tales” and one of the parts of the famous saga “Chronicles of Narnia” of 1990. In addition, the actor has a unique voice, thanks to which he took part in numerous radio shows, as well as voiced characters in the animated films “Magic Adventure” and “Secret Show”.
"Doctor Who"
It is precisely the role in this series that the audience will forever remember the actor Tom Baker, whose biography, career and roles which seemed to have led him to this moment all his life. Over the years of filming, he managed to set a record for watching an episode by viewers, and also earn the title of one of the most beloved performers of this role in history. He instantly gained popularity and seemed to have resurrected the series after changing Tom Sacrifice as Doctor. His hero was distinguished by a unique style, as well as his eccentricity in almost everything. Most recognize him by his long, multi-colored scarf, which he has not removed for all seasons. Because of simplicity, clumsiness and a huge smile, opponents often underestimated him, but at the right time he showed undeniable dexterity and excessive force. None of the previous and subsequent actors played the Doctor for as long as Tom, for a full seven years. After delegating authority to Peter Davison, he appeared several times in other episodes, such as Time Dimensions, The Name of the Doctor, and the anniversary issue of The Day of the Doctor. And his famous scarf even has his own website.

After 5 years, they divorced, and for 14 years Tom remained lonely. However, thanks to the series “Doctor Who” in 1980, he marries again, this time with his colleague Lalle Word, who played his companion - Roman. But, unfortunately, the couple did not live together for a year and a half. Baker did not stay single. In 1986, he again made a marriage proposal to colleague Sue Gerrard, who worked as the screenwriter of the series. For four years they lived in France, but still decided to return to their native England, where their marriage continues to this day. He didn’t have children anymore, but we can say with confidence that his legacy will live forever, because Doctor Who is one of the most successful and cult TV series in history, and Baker’s image has become the brightest and will forever remain in the hearts of millions of fans.
