History
The Samara Square Theater opened in 1987. It was created by a young director Evgeny Drobysh. The status of a municipal theater was received 6 years after it began to exist. Evgeny Drobysh is a graduate of the B. Shchukin Higher Theater School. The first performance of "Samara Square" - "Demonstration". This production was an event in the life of the city and went far beyond its borders. The plot is based on jokes on the topic of politics. For this production, the theater was in danger of closure. But the commission, who arrived from the capital, saved the Samara drama, since while the country was announced publicity.
Eugene Drobysh was very fond of experimenting, just like his young troupe. The greatest success of his creative quest was the synthesis of drama with plastic. Performances of this kind have been repeatedly awarded at festivals of both the all-Russian and international levels. Theater "Samara Square" often tours in Russia and other countries. The troupe has already visited Germany, Austria, America, Denmark, Hungary. During its existence, Samara Square has repeatedly changed its status. At first it was a youth experimental studio, then a private theater, then a division of the โShow-Illusion I. Kioโ, then an entreprise, and now a state institution. In 1993, the troupe received its building. This is a monument of architecture, built in the Art Nouveau style. The building used to be a movie theater. Before the theater moved to this room, for 13 long years it was under reconstruction. At this time, performances were on rented stages. Only in 2007, the theater finally opened its doors.
