The drug "Atrovent" (for inhalation) has a direct bronchodilating effect. The medicine, in addition, has a preventive effect, reducing the secretion of bronchial glands and preventing bronchospasm.

The “Atrovent” remedy recommends prescribing for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (including pulmonary emphysema , chronic obstructive bronchitis ), as well as for moderate to mild bronchial asthma.

The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components, as well as with intolerance to atropine and its derivatives.

The medicine "Atrovent" instruction recommends prescribing with caution with prostatic hyperplasia, obstruction in the urinary tract, angle-closure glaucoma, children under six years of age, as well as during lactation and pregnancy.

Side effects when using the medicine include gastrointestinal tract disorders (constipation or diarrhea, vomiting or nausea), dry mouth, headache.

The drug "Atrovent" can also cause urinary retention, disturbance of accommodation, palpitations, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, increased heart rate. However, the listed adverse reactions are noted in rare cases and are mainly reversible. In patients with obstructive lesions in the urinary tract, the likelihood of urinary retention increases.

The dosage regimen for each patient should be established individually. During therapy, patients should be observed by a specialist.

As a supportive treatment, adults (including the elderly) and patients over twelve years old are recommended two milliliters (forty drops - 500 mcg), three or four times a day. The maximum amount of the drug per day is 8 ml (2 mg).

For children from six to twelve years old, the Atrovent medicine recommends one milliliter (20 drops - 250 mcg), three or four times a day. Patients under 6 years of age are shown 0.4-1 ml (eight to twenty drops - 100-250 mcg), three to four times a day. The maximum dosage per day is four milliliters (1 mg).

In the treatment of acute bronchospasm, patients older than twelve years of age (including the elderly) are recommended 2 ml (forty drops - 500 mcg). To stabilize the patient’s condition, repeated appointments are allowed. The attending physician sets the intervals between the introduction.

Beta-2 adrenergic agonists are allowed at the same time.

The recommended amount of Atrovent medicine is diluted with physiological saline to a volume of three to four milliliters before use, poured into a nebulizer and inhaled.

Dilute the medicine every time before the procedure. The remaining solution after inhalation must be poured.

Depending on the type of nebulizer and the method of the procedure, the dosage may vary.

Atrovent medicine is allowed for use with different nebulizers. If a centralized oxygen system is used, a flow rate of 6-8 l / min is recommended.

In clinical practice, specific manifestations of an overdose have not been identified. Given the local method of use and the breadth of therapeutic effectiveness of the Atrovent drug, the development of some serious side effects is unlikely. Minor systemic manifestations are possible (including an increase in the frequency of contractions of the heart, dry mouth).
