Bromhexine (Berlin Chemie) is a secretolytic (mucolytic) drug, has an expectorant and unexpressed antitussive property. It is available in the form of a dragee, a drop (inside), a solution for injection. Bromhexine (Berlin Chemie) for children is made in the form of tablets, syrup.
The medication reduces the viscosity of sputum, increases its volume and enhances discharge, and also contributes to the activation of ciliated epithelium. Bromhexine (Berlin Chemie) improves the production of surfactant (surfactant) endogenous, which ensures stability in the process of respiration of alveolar cells. The result begins to appear after two to five days after the start of administration.
Bromhexine (Berlin Chemie) is indicated for diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by difficulty in sputum discharge. These include: bronchitis of various nature (including complicated by bronchiectasis), tracheobronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, pneumonia (chronic, acute), cystic fibrosis. The drug is also prescribed for the rehabilitation of the bronchial tree before surgery, during the implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (intrabronchial), as a preventive measure for the accumulation of thick and viscous sputum in the postoperative period in the bronchi.
Bromhexine (Berlin-Chemie) is contraindicated for peptic ulcer, hypersensitivity, in the first trimester of pregnancy, during lactation. The drug is not prescribed for patients under six years of age (for tablet form).
With renal, hepatic insufficiency, diseases of the bronchi with excessive accumulation of secretions, with a history of gastric bleeding, it is used with caution.
Side effects may include allergic reactions, dizziness, dyspepsia, nausea, exacerbation of peptic ulcer (in the duodenum and stomach), headache.
In case of an overdose, the patient feels vomiting, diarrhea, dyspeptic disorders ( digestive disorders ) appear. Therapy of conditions is gastric lavage, artificial vomiting (in the first hour or two after ingestion).
Patients under two years of age are prescribed two milligrams, from two to six years - the dosage is doubled (4 mg), from six to fourteen years old - twice as much (8 mg). Take recommended three times a day. If necessary, for adults, a dose increase of up to 16 mg is allowed, the number of doses in this case is 4 per day.
The solution for inhalation is used in an amount of 8 mg for adults, for patients over ten years old - two times less (4 mg), for children from two to ten years - 2 mg. The recommended frequency of procedures is two per day. Before use, the solution is diluted 1: 1 with distilled water and heated to the patient's body temperature.
During the therapeutic course, the intake of a large volume of fluid is recommended. Thus, the expectorant property of the drug is enhanced. Treatment of children should be carried out in combination with vibration massage of the chest or postural drainage (a procedure in which the patient is in a position where sputum leaves under gravity).
Bromhexine is not prescribed with cough suppressing drugs, due to the fact that it reduces the discharge of liquefied secretions. The medication is not compatible with alkali solutions; it promotes the introduction of antibiotics (Erythromycin, Amoxicillin, Oxytetracycline, Cephalexin), sulfa drugs in the sputum during the first four to five days of antimicrobial treatment.
After taking Bromhexine (Berlin Chemie) in young patients, parental reviews are mostly positive. The drug is synthetic and in many cases does not cause negative consequences for allergy sufferers, unlike other drugs.
