Nystatin for thrush - a proven tool for years

For many years now, Nystatin has been used to treat fungal infections . With thrush, this drug shows a fairly good result, but it costs several orders of magnitude cheaper than modern antifungal agents. "Nystatin" is an antibiotic belonging to the polyene group of drugs. The drug is released in tablets obtained from a light yellow powder. It has a specific, slightly harsh smell and a bitter taste. The drug is poorly soluble in water. This substance is sparingly soluble in alcohol. The drug is very sensitive to the effects of light and air temperature, therefore, it is stored in the dark and cool, because in heat and light it can lose all its medicinal properties. "Nystatin" is very easily destroyed in both alkaline and acidic environments. The substance is very hygroscopic, therefore it should only be in dry places.

"Nystatin" is low toxic. As a rule, this drug does not cause side effects. With hypersensitivity to the drug, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, chills, fever are possible. If such symptoms occur, the dosage of the drug is reduced. The use of Nystatin during lactation and during pregnancy is not recommended.

Release Forms:

- tablets with a yellow shell - 250,000 and 50,000 units;

- nystatin ointment in tubes (100,000 units in 1 g);

- "Nystatin" - vaginal suppositories, 250,000 and 50,000 units.

Prescribe tablets inside the drug in all cases of fungal infection. Assign "Nystatin" with thrush in the oral cavity, in the vagina and on the skin in such doses (per day):

- Adults - 3-4 times 500,000 units, you can take 6-8 times 250,000 units.
The daily dose of nystatin is 1500000-3000000 UNITS. In special cases, with generalized, severe candidiasis, the daily dose increases to 6,000,000 units.

- Children up to a year - 3-4 times for 100000-125000 units.

- Children under 3 years old - 3-4 times 250,000 units.

Nystatin ointment is used to treat fungal infections of the skin. It is effective for thrush after antibiotic treatment. The use of ointment is combined with the use of "Nystatin" inside.

With a fungal infection of the lower intestine, with vulvovaginitis or colpitis, Nystatin is also used. Suppositories with thrush are inserted into the vagina 2 times a day. The standard duration of therapy is 14 days.
Many women do not think that candida infection tends to be transmitted from woman to man, and therefore no β€œmiraculous” suppositories will help to get rid of the infection if your sexual partner does not undergo antifungal therapy with you. This is where Nystatin helps. With thrush, the course of treatment with this drug may take 14 days. Not only with vaginal candidiasis this remedy is used. "Nystatin" helps with thrush of the oral mucosa, skin, internal organs (lungs, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract). When taking antibiotics, especially the tetracycline series, neomycin, levomycetin and the weakened state of patients to prevent the development of candidomycosis, they are prescribed Nystatin. With thrush, which has a relapsing and generalized character, courses of repeated treatment are always carried out. Breaks between treatment should be no more than 3 weeks.

Patients need to stop taking "Nystatin" if hypersensitivity to the drug is manifested, signs of irritation intensify. Patients will be asked to take repeated tests to clarify the diagnosis. If no improvement has occurred, treatment is continued or another antifungal drug is prescribed. The tablets should be drunk, slowly dissolving them in the mouth for about fifteen minutes. It is not recommended to chew tablets or swallow them whole. The longer the dissolved suspension of Nystatin and saliva is in the oral cavity, the better the effect.
