Krasnodar Academic Drama Theater. Gorky was opened in 1920. Then it was called "First Soviet" and bore the name of Lunacharsky. Today, the Drama Theater is considered the main cultural center in the Kuban. He is loved, sought after and popular. He has more than thirty productions in his repertoire. For the season, this theater is visited by almost two hundred thousand spectators.
About the theater
Such outstanding creative personalities as Vsevolod Meyerhold, David Furmanov and Samuel Marshak were those who created the Krasnodar Academic Drama Theater. Krasnodar was very pleased with its opening and the appearance of a talented troupe. Despite the fact that at that time the Civil War was just over, the public actively attended performances. The craving for art among the people was enormous.
The name of M. Gorky, which the theater proudly bears today, was assigned to him in 1932. It was then that his creative take-off began. The team brought together artists of rare talent. The troupe began to be considered one of the best in the country among the provincial.
During the Second World War, the Germans occupied Krasnodar. Artists were forced to evacuate to Sochi. There they gave performances and concerts. After their hometown was liberated, the actors returned home. They found the theater building lying in ruins. For a long time, the troupe had to huddle in other people's rooms.
In 1973, the team moved to a new building, in which it lives to this day.
In 1980, in honor of the sixtieth anniversary, the theater was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
In the 90s, the troupe began to actively participate in festivals and competitions, to go on tour. In 1996, the team was awarded academic status.
The Ministry of Culture of the Krasnodar Territory strongly supports the theater and all its undertakings.

"The Kuban Theater"
In 2016, the Krasnodar drama 15 times held on its stage a festival called the Kuban Theater. It involves public and private professional troupes. The teams must submit to the jury one of the new productions, which has been in the repertoire for no more than two years.
