Types of contraception

Every woman who cares about her health should take seriously the choice of means to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Modern means of protection allow you to save yourself from worrying thoughts about an unplanned conception.

Types of contraception

The most popular of these is a condom. It is quite reliable and affordable, moreover, its use does not have a negative effect on the body. The only exception is an allergy to latex, but this reaction is not common.

The most modern types of contraception are spermicides. They include the basis for the effective distribution of the drug throughout the vagina, as well as a chemical substance that minimizes sperm activity (or destroys them). The most commonly used nonoxynol or benzalkonium chloride. It has a detrimental effect on sperm.

It is noteworthy that the use of such funds is not contraindicated even during breastfeeding. It has no age restrictions. Moreover, spermicides reliably protect against sexually transmitted diseases, practically do not harm health, can be used for a long time, and are also an additional source of lubrication. They are perfectly combined with other contraceptives. However, there are allergic reactions to one or another component that is part of spermicides.

Hormonal contraception

With this method of protection, drugs that prevent an unwanted pregnancy are taken orally. Each such remedy has hormones in its composition, which, after getting into the body of a woman, prevent ovulation. It is advisable to consult a doctor, as a specialist will tell you which oral contraceptives are most suitable for you. It must be remembered that the use of such funds is not recommended in the first few months after childbirth and throughout the lactation period. The high contraceptive effect of these drugs is the presence of estrogens and gestogens in their composition.

For protection, you can also use the vaginal ring, it is small and flexible, so it can be easily inserted on its own. Its advantage over pills is that it contains much less hormones. It is important to remember that such a tool must be removed after three weeks of use.

Intrauterine contraception is a spiral that is inserted into the uterus. It contains a certain amount of the hormone, which is regularly ingested in small quantities. Such a spiral will protect a woman from an unwanted pregnancy for five years, however, her installation is contraindicated in the presence of infectious diseases, as well as those of the fair sex who have not yet given birth.

The patch that prevents conception most fully reveals the concept of "modern types of contraception." It is enough to stick it on the body, and protection against an unplanned pregnancy for a week is provided. This patch contains hormones that, getting through the skin into the bloodstream, provide a high contraceptive effect.

You can also stop your choice on a subcutaneous implant. Such a tool is installed under local anesthesia on the inner side of the shoulder. This procedure should only be performed by a specialist. The implant is a rod with the following dimensions: length - 4 centimeters, diameter - 2 millimeters. It contains the hormone gestagen. The installation procedure for such a tool takes several minutes. Its validity period is 3 years. During this time, small doses of the hormone will enter the bloodstream, perfectly fulfilling its function of preventing the process of ovulation.
