A new story about the adventures modified by Romeo and Juliet was born in the now-popular cinematic genre of the horror comedy film - in the film “The Heat of Our Bodies” (actors: Nicholas Holt, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Anali Tipton and Rob Cordry). The picture is based on Isaac Marion’s novel of the same name adapted for the movie “Warm Bodies” (2010).
There is no silver lining
Sometimes the already boring and somewhat “worn-out” plot prompts the creators to show remarkable ingenuity, ingenuity and even impudence, which leads to the birth of, if not absolute masterpieces, then at least extraordinary works. Here is the picture “The Warmth of Our Bodies”, the actors of which, in an instant after the world premiere, became megapopular, based on the well-known template and at the same time managed to break it. The romantic horror comedy directed by Jonathan Levine has become a real stumbling block for film critics, having earned categorically negative and laudatory reviews, despite its indecent zombie apocalypse genre. The author deliberately picked up the theme of the trembling love of people for monsters, which was very popular after the triumph of The Twilight Saga, and his creation tells the story of the sincere relations of a real zombie and a living girl. Compared with the overly bleached vampire in love, the bluish walking corpse in love makes the viewer a more lively impression. Moreover, the actors of the film “The Warmth of Our Bodies” are also young and very pretty, and in skill they are not inferior to twilight.
About the director
For a true film lover, the appearance of a new movie at the box office is an excellent occasion to discover the director from New York, Jonathan Levine, whose rather modest filmography consists of small masterpiece instructions on how to endure completely irreparable everyday difficulties on your feet. Jonathan made his debut in 2006 with a not-so-successful (funeral) indie horror titled “Everybody Loves Mandy Lane,” which covered three eternal themes - love, betrayal, death. Two years later, Levin created a more optimistic work, Madness, which told the story of the friendship of an elderly psychoanalyst and melancholy dealer. The latter paid for the first services weed. In the 2011 film Life is Beautiful, he already demonstrates a considerable share of optimism, letting the viewer understand that one can live and enjoy life with emotional trauma, and even with a disease such as spinal cancer. Therefore, it is not surprising that Jonathan Levin did not pass by the creation of Isaac Marion, in which a simple, but rather promising thought that love can revive a dead one also slips.
Atmosphere of cinema
Fundamental to the plot is a touching romantic line. For the action in the picture, the skinny and lanky skeletons, aggressive zombies and some asocial lost individuals are responsible. The actors created the proper atmosphere of the movie “The Body of Our Bodies” with trepidation and professionalism. They were assisted in this by the director, who now and then inserted references to the infamous Romeo and Juliet, and the musical accompaniment of composers Marco Beltrami and Bak Sanders. The film “The Warmth of Our Bodies”, in a rather understandable allegorical form, claims that even the walking dead, who, unfortunately, are very common in our lives, can come to life and wake up if you remind them of what true love is.
Plot
The comedy “The Warmth of Our Bodies”, whose actors are sure to be remembered by the viewer, tells a strange story about a post-apocalyptic world awash with voracious zombies hunting for a handful of surviving people. A young and handsome zombie (Nicholas Holt), remembering only that his name begins with the letter “P”, during another fierce clash between the opposing sides, rescues a living young blonde from her own kind (Teresa Palmer). The girl made a sortie to the pharmacy for drugs with like-minded people, but ran into bloodthirsty monsters. The main character, the dead man R, brings the unfortunate to his home, in every possible way saves and takes care of him until the moment when Julie does not have to save him. As it turned out, the girl’s father - a serious military colonel (John Malkovich) - is the commander-in-chief among the surviving people, and he naturally intends to wrest his little one from the clutches of the dead man. But the heroes manage to fall in love with each other, and the whole world is on the verge of an amazing discovery - a cure for the virus that turns people into zombies.
Why reinvent the wheel?
The director, guided by his copyright advantage, did not consider it necessary to explain how and why the disaster occurred, which led to massive zombies. Indeed, why try to invent a bicycle, if sophisticated connoisseurs of the genre quite independently can safely make a whole list of all sorts of reasons. Also, Jonathan Levin was not particularly zealous with explanations for the appearance of wonderful skeletons, which are not only tall, but also very fast. The main thing is that they fulfill a completely clear mission in the film - peacekeeping, that is, they act as a common enemy for people and zombies. As a result, before the impending threat, the two warring camps are forced to unite. Here is such an unexpected turn the film “Heat of our bodies” acquires.
Actors
Nicholas Holt (photo attached) is one of the main successes of the film. He perfectly got used to the image of the walking dead. You believe him in everything: facial expressions, gait, gestures, all kinds of sounds (lowing, growling) - it is impossible to imagine someone else in his place. Despite his youth (the actor is only 22 years old), he is utterly convincing in his image. Here is such a young talent gave the world the film "The warmth of our bodies." The main actor Holt immediately became the object of sighing of hundreds of thousands of teenage girls in love. Teresa Palmer perfectly fit into the general atmosphere, the picture and fulfilled her immediate task - she appeared to be sweet and weak, but inwardly strong, assertive, purposeful and, most importantly, a girl in love. Minor characters are also quite original, the picture “The Heat of Our Bodies” can rightfully be proud of this. Actors, Anali Tipton, for example, or John Malkovich, genuinely admire their talent, demonstrated even in tiny episodic roles. By the way, initially, according to the original, Nora (the nurse) was supposed to be black, but the director decided to invite the white-skinned actress - Anali Tipton.
Idyllic happy end
The bloodthirsty and pessimistic fans of the zombie horror are likely to be upset by the idyllic happy ending of the picture, however, like the creator’s blasphemous idea that zombies can be cured. The picture will soon be enjoyed by lovers of comedy and romance. It would be interesting to see the sequel to the film - “The heat of our bodies 2”. Actors playing the main roles would most likely have remained the same, but the appearance of new characters would add an attractive intrigue to the story. Although it will be difficult to surpass the original, because the Levin film perfectly combines romanticism, overt ironic cynicism and many romantic cinema cliches.

Jonathan Levine created a real miracle, an ideal object - a movie, which, depending on the mood of the beholder, can be positioned as a youth reference melodrama about first love (touching and ironic) and as a caustic, mocking parody of all modern melodramas. This is definitely not a parody, which at the present time in the "zombie movie" segment is even more than real, original horror. The viewer can either laugh heartily while watching this undoubtedly witty film, or closer to the climax drop a tear. In any case, “The Warmth of Our Bodies”, whose actors (photos are published above) which became the new Hollywood stars, deserves attention.
