Michael was born in 1953 in the American city of Houston (Texas), in the family of artist Michael Bowen and film actress Sonya Sorel. He is the brother of Robert and Keith Carradine, who at one time also decided to become actors. In 1982, Mike Bowen first appeared on the TV screen, having received episodic roles in three series at once: Falcon Cross (1981-1990), Quiet Pier (1979-1993) and California Road Patrol (1977-1983). And a year later he played Tommy - the selfish and hollow-headed guy of the main character in the comedy melodrama Martha Coolidge “The Girl from the Valley”.

In 1986, the actor received a major role in Robert Dornhelm's comedy Echo Park. Three years later, he played the role of Mick Drummond, the son of the protagonist, in the Dag Campbell television thriller Season of Fear. He replenished the main cast of Andrew Lane’s drama “Fatal Passion” (1989). He received a small role in the crime drama Francis Ford Coppola's “The Godfather 3” (1990). And he played the main characters in the fantastic action movie "New Eden" (1994) and in the crime thriller "Test by Fire", filmed by American director Alan Metzger.

In 1997, Michael Bowen, along with Benicio del Toro and Alicia Silverstone, took part in the filming of Marco Brambill’s crime comedy “Excess Baggage”. Along with Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton, he joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino's crime drama Jackie Brown (1997). He starred in the comedy horror film by Mark Lambert of Bristol "Demon Slayer" (1999). And in 2003 and 2004, he starred in two parts of the criminal action movie Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" and "Kill Bill 2". He played the role of orderly Bak, who raped the Black Mamba (bride) while she was lying in a coma.

The actor played Sheriff Stan Watkins in the action movie Walking Wide, filmed by Kevin Bray in 2004. Together with Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek starred in the comedy action movie Brett Ratner "After Sunset" (2004). The minor character played in the horror film Chris Sivertson's "Lost" (2006). In the same year, he received a small role in John Hertzfeld’s action movie “The Shock”.
