Let's talk about them in order. Speak & Spell is a debut album that was recorded in 1981. The name of the disc is taken from an electronic toy consisting of a keyboard and a speech synthesizer. The main composer was Vince Clark.

A broken frame

Now we’ll tell you how the 1982 Depeche Mode group met. The discography of the team during this period was replenished with the album A Broken Frame. This is the first work released after the project left Vince Clark.

The album is a gloomy and serious work. From that moment, Martin Gore turned into the main and actually the only songwriter of the group. This situation continued until 2001. The group performed the song Leave in Silence in an acoustic version in Paris as part of a tour called Touring the Angel, which took place in 2006.

Construction Time Again

1983 was also very fruitful for Depeche Mode. The discography of the group was supplemented by the album Construction Time Again. The disc was recorded in London at Garden Studio. The mixing process is in a Berlin studio called Hansa Mischraum.

It's about the band’s first album, recorded with Alan Wilder. In this work, there are significant changes in the style of the team. The plate has a pronounced industrial sound. The content of the songs is distinguished by deep lyricism. The compositions reflected political and social themes.

Some great reward

Continuing the conversation about Depeche Mode. The discography of the band continued in 1984 with the album Some Great Reward. The sound of this record demonstrates that the music of the band is becoming increasingly gloomy and dark. The general tone of this work demonstrates a not too strong dependence on words.

The exception is People Are People. It condemns racism. At the same time, the album is filled with thoughts about life and the world. It can be called romantic. In 2006, this work was reprinted in the United States and Great Britain.

Further creativity

Discussion of the topic Depeche Mode Discography is impossible without mentioning the album Black Celebration, which was released in 1986. The record was recorded in "dark" colors. The disc features an incredibly successful combination of gothic rock and electronica. In 2007, the album was re-released first in Germany, and soon its internationally updated version was released.

We are talking about the only record on five songs of which Martin Gore acted as the main vocalist. The rest of the compositions were performed by Dave Gahan.

The next album, called Music for the Masses, was released in 1987. The record was a huge success in the USA. At this work, new styles in music appeared. This disc is slightly experimental sound. Alan Wilder paid particular attention to samples and arrangements.

In the compositions you can hear a large number of full-fledged guitar parts. The songs have a melancholy and disturbing sound. The album caused a surge in the popularity of the group in the United States.

The next Violator CD was released in 1990. An important role in promoting and creating the album was played by Flood - producer, Francois Kevorkian - sound engineer, as well as Anton Corbein. The latter designed the cover, created advertising photographs, and shot video accompaniments for concert performances and songs.

We are talking about the most famous and commercially successful work of the team. In 1996, the album was recognized thrice platinum. In support of this work, the group released four singles, and also conducted a world tour, which included concerts in Europe, Japan, Australia and North America.

The next album was called Songs of Faith and Devotion and was released in 1993. During the creation of this disc, the group first attracted additional musicians and vocalists. When recording songs, One Caress turned to a symphony orchestra for help. The album as a whole turned out to be incredibly harmonious, the electronics play an auxiliary role in it. Live instruments and the lead singer’s voice came to the fore. This work can without exaggeration be called the beginning of a new era in the history of the group.

The next album was called Ultra and was released in 1997. The album took first place in the charts in the UK. Songs that were released as singles became hits as a result. By 2006, in the United States, the record was sold in a circulation of 584,000 copies.

Alan Wilder did not participate in the recording of the album. In 1995-1996, Martin Gore continuously tried to convince the team to move on to recording new material. Dave occasionally appeared in sessions. Moreover, it took him weeks to record a vocal part. Gore began to think about the breakup of the group.

In 1996, Gahan began a rehabilitation course, which was supposed to save him from drug addiction. As a result, the team continued to work on the album, collaborating with producer Tim Simenon. The record was recorded.

It was originally planned to release exclusively a single. The functions of Wilder were taken over by Tim Simenon and his team: programmer, sound engineer and keyboard player. During the meeting, Martin Gore told Simenon that he would like to give the disc a sound in the style typical of hip-hop.
