They say that little children are little poor ... But young parents are not aware that these poor can be small. Responsible mom and dad of the newly-made baby do not see the little things in the life of a small person and treat each problem as a global catastrophe. And it’s useless to explain to them that all this is temporary and soon everything will work out, there will still be panic, tears, feelings. And there is already something to worry about in the first year, and even more so a month, and even in the first week of the life of a newborn baby. Now his eyes are festering, his stomach hurts, now he spits up with a fountain, does not go to the toilet for several days or, on the contrary, goes too often ... You can endlessly list such things.
The eyes of the baby are festering in almost every case. First, the eyes turn red, then they stick together, pus is secreted. Sometimes they generally stop opening, which is why the young mother is practically losing her mind and begins to follow popular advice and drip her own milk into the baby’s eyes. But this is certainly not an option, since breast milk, although, undoubtedly, is very therapeutic, but in this case completely deprives the entire treatment process of meaning. As a result of such procedures, the eyes of the baby stick together even more, which makes the eye fester even more. This approach can have dangerous consequences. It is best to leave mom’s milk for the baby’s nose and not injure the baby even more if his eyes are festering.
It is worth noting that newborn children are sterile, because any, even the most harmless infection, can cause the child's eyes to fester. And almost nothing can be done about it. Often the infection gets in the hospital. Suppuration can also be the result of drugs used during childbirth. And, perhaps, my mother did not quite follow hygiene and forgot to wash her hands after visiting the restroom. And after discharge from the hospital, there may be countless reasons at all. For example, the wind blew and the dust rose during a walk, and as a result, the baby's eyes are festering. And, perhaps, I had to visit a doctor, and after all, not only the same sterile babies were at the reception, but also infected children.
What to do? Hide baby in soap bubble? Do not leave home at all? No, in no case should this be done. The body will overcome the infection and develop useful antibodies, immunity will do its job. The entire first year of the child is a recovery period. All this time, the body of a small person gets used to the new environment, adapts. But you still need to treat, so as not to start the problem.
Treatment, of course, should only be conservative. Any pediatrician or optometrist will first recommend doing a massage of the lacrimal glands in order to clean them. At the same time, it is necessary to make compresses on the eyes, it is better to use weak tea leaves or chamomile infusion for this. And be sure to consult with children's doctors. During the first month after discharge from the hospital, the pediatrician and nurse are required to periodically come and examine the newborn. No need to be afraid or shy to tell them about the problem and ask questions. It is unlikely that you will find in your baby something substantially new and unusual, which has not yet happened in medical practice. Usually, in addition to the compress, the doctor prescribes eye drops. The fact that the eye of a newborn is festering is a very frequent phenomenon and it passes with proper care, usually within one to two weeks.
But, alas, conservative methods of treatment do not always help. It happens that the disease goes away for a while, and then returns again. The reason is the lack of development of the lacrimal canal, and massage does not help in every case. Then the baby will be prescribed a simple procedure for washing the lacrimal canal, after which the eyes will certainly no longer fester.
