Triderm is a medication intended for external use in infectious skin diseases. The tool has a fairly powerful effect, so it is not used for prevention. "Triderm" for children, according to reviews, is prescribed to reduce the inflammatory process in dermatoses or dermatitis.
Release form
This medicine is produced by the pharmaceutical company SCHERING-PLOUGH LABO NV in Portuguese or Belgian enterprises. The drug can be found in pharmacies in the form of ointment or cream. Shampoos or gels called Triderm do not exist. Ointment or cream is produced in aluminum tubes having a weight of 15 or 30 grams. They are identical in composition and concentration of active substances.
Structure
The composition of the active components is as follows:
- betamethasone dipropionate - 643 mcg in 1 g.
- clotrimazole - 10 mg in 1 g.
- gentamicin - 1 mg (1000 IU) in 1 g.
The concentration of the active substance in the ointment and in the cream is the same, the difference is only in different auxiliary components. The ointment contains petroleum jelly and liquid paraffin. Triderm for children (reviews confirm this) is used quite often. The cream contains several types of alcohols: propylene glycol, benzyl, cetostearyl, macrogol, as well as phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide and sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate.

It should be said that cream and ointment are hormonal preparations that contain synthetic glucocorticosteroids (betamethasone dipropionate). This substance successfully copes with the inflammatory process, itching and allergic reaction. But there is one problem: this hormone is considered potent, it quickly becomes addictive, so doctors do not recommend using the ointment as a prophylactic or permanent remedy. A corticosteroid is characterized by serious side effects that can cause a lot of problems to a person. This is confirmed by the instruction attached to the Triderm preparation. Children are prescribed it with caution.
Uncontrolled use of creams and ointments with this hormone can cause various diseases, for example, hormonal perioral dermatitis. The disease is more difficult to treat than all other types of dermatitis. As a result, the situation will become much more serious than before the use of the medicine. From this it follows that the tool must be used only as directed by a specialist and for a short time.
Therapeutic effect
Judging by the reviews, Triderm for children can be prescribed. This medication has a combined effect: anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antipruritic, antifungal, antibacterial. The removal of inflammation, allergy symptoms and itching provides betamethasone, the antifungal effect is clotrimazole, and gentamicin acts as an antibacterial. As mentioned above, the hormone copes with the symptoms "perfectly", and the effect persists for a long time. Clotrimazole kills bacteria that cause dermatomycosis, candidiasis and pityriasis versicolor. Gentamicin, which is an antibiotic, successfully eliminates streptococcus, staphylococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, aerobacteria, Proteus and Klebsiella. Indications for Triderm are given below.
What is it used for?
Both forms of release have the same type of evidence. In this case, these are dermatoses complicated by the appearance of a secondary infection. It is caused by microorganisms sensitive to gentamicin and clotrimazole. "Triderm" is prescribed for dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, eczema, lichen, dermatomycosis, especially concentrated in the inguinal region or other skin folds.
Mode of application
According to reviews, "Triderm" for children is used in the form of ointment, this is justified in the presence of large affected areas. Cream is prescribed if skin lesions are minor. It should also be said that the cream is absorbed faster and leaves no residue, so if you need to use the drug under clothes, it is better to give preference to a creamy consistency. If you process wet areas, you should also use a cream, since it dries the skin better than an ointment. The agent is applied to the affected areas with a thin layer, so that the area of healthy skin framing the sore spot is captured. It is applied twice a day: morning and evening before bedtime. This confirms the instruction to the Triderm tool.
Children need to rub the medicine daily, during the entire course that the doctor prescribed. Do not allow ointment or cream on open wounds or damaged areas of the skin. In this case, absorption of gentamicin through the blood may occur and provoke side effects. Observe safety measures when applying medicine to children.
If you use the drug for three to four weeks, but there is no improvement, you must stop using it and consult a doctor in order to undergo a more thorough examination. If the drug has been used for a long time, then it should be canceled gradually. This medication is strictly prohibited in the treatment of diseases of the eyes and peri-ocular areas.
If the ointment or cream causes severe irritation, another infection is attached, treatment with the drug is immediately stopped. Indications "Triderma" must be strictly observed.
While using other antibiotics, carefully monitor the well-being of the child, as a cross-allergic reaction may develop. If you use a cream or ointment on large surfaces of the skin, side effects are possible, which manifest in the form of adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's syndrome, obesity, muscle atrophy, thinning of the skin, steroid diabetes, cardiomyopathy, osteoporosis, hirsutism, amenorrhea and steroid psychoses. Signs of obesity are very specific: fat deposits are localized on the face, neck, back and abdomen. In addition, side effects can occur as a significant growth of microorganisms that are resistant to gentamicin. These symptoms are eliminated with the help of drug withdrawal, symptomatic treatment.
For children and pregnant
Pediatricians prescribe the use of Triderm cream for children only in case of urgent need from the age of two. The fact is that the hormone, which is part of the drug, has a much stronger effect on the child's body than on adults, and accordingly, the risk of developing side effects is very high. Betamethasone has the peculiarity of being absorbed into the blood, therefore serious complications are caused: inhibition of the functions of the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands, Itsenko-Cushing's syndrome, growth retardation, slow weight gain, increase in intracranial pressure, fontanel swelling, headache and swelling of the optic nerve. Given all of the above, it is necessary to use this tool with caution, in small doses, a very short period (up to seven days). Can Triderm Ointment be used for babies? This is a common question.
For the baby, it is better to prefer a cream, as it is absorbed faster. It must be remembered that Triderm is used only in the presence of dermatitis complicated by infection, that is, in cases where it is impossible to manage with agents that do not contain hormones and antibiotics. As a rule, after the use of this drug, a steady improvement occurs. As for its use during pregnancy, here the conditions of use are the same as in childhood. When treating diaper rash in infants with Triderm, the benefit of the drug should prevail over the danger of serious complications.

If there is no certainty about this, it is better not to use the medication so as not to jeopardize the complications of the child. If such a need arose, then you can not use ointment or cream on a large area of the skin, and also use the medicine for a long period. The fact of the penetration of the drug into breast milk has not been established, but given all the side effects that have been mentioned, it is better to abandon breastfeeding for the period of use of the drug. Often used "Triderm" with atopic dermatitis in children. Is it justified? In this case, it is important to adhere to the doctor's recommendations.
Inappropriate use of the drug
Many people use this remedy for other purposes: from otitis media, by analogy with the Sofradex drug. The compositions of both drugs are very similar and the principle of action is also similar. However, it should be understood that dexamethasone, which is part of the ear drops, acts more sparingly than synthetic corticosteroids, which are a component of Triderma. Therefore, for the treatment of otitis media and other diseases of the ear, it is recommended to use authorized means intended specifically for the ears in order to avoid complications.
Side effects
There are frequent cases of occurrence of perioral dermatitis, as a result of using an ointment or cream with betamethasone. It manifests itself immediately after the drug is canceled. If you again start rubbing a cream or ointment, all manifestations will immediately disappear. But the fact is that over time, the dose of the drug becomes more and more, since a strong dependence on the hormone is established: the skin requires more of it. Various rashes and irritation of the skin will appear with a fair frequency.
In this situation, you need to contact a competent doctor and gradually discontinue the drug, replacing it with another treatment. In addition to these manifestations, there may be other symptoms. For example, burning sensation, erythema, discoloration of the skin, itching, wet skin, dryness, increased hair growth, the appearance of blackheads. Unfortunately, this drug cannot be considered a panacea for all types of dermatitis. The medication has its contraindications and limitations in use, which must be taken into account.
Contraindications
The drug should not be used categorically for skin tuberculosis, syphilis with rashes on the skin, chickenpox, herpes, post-grafting reactions on the skin, under two years of age. An absolute contraindication to it is special sensitivity or allergic reactions to the components of the drug. Can I find anything cheaper than Triderma?
Analogs
Preparations having a similar active substance will have a synonymous effect. As analogues, medicines with a similar action, but other active components, are used. If there is no allergy to Triderm, it is well tolerated by patients, it is possible to prescribe a cheaper drug with the same effect. If side effects occur while using the medicine, it is best to replace it. Sometimes it is better to resort to the help of Triderma analogues. Cheaper are the following: Belosalik, Betasal, Diprosalik, Cleore, Rederm. As preparations with the same active substance, we can recommend: "Akriderm", "Kanizon".
Reviews
According to reviews, "Triderm" for children with fungus is often used. It helps well if there is irritation on the skin of the child. Side effects are rare, especially if the treatment is not too long. Without a doctor’s prescription, it is not recommended to use it.
