Biography
Stephen Hillenberg was born on August 21, 1961 in a city called Lawton, Oklahoma (United States of America). In childhood, he did not particularly differ from other children and was fond of studying biology.
At 23, the young man was already working as a marine biologist. But a few years later I realized that this was not his thing at all, and decided to radically change the scope of activity. He came to the conclusion that it is worth trying your hand at your favorite business - animation. A couple of short films by Stephen Hillenberg pleasantly surprised critics and made excellent marks at various film festivals.
At one of the cultural events, Steve met Joe Murray, who invited him to work as a director for the film Rocko's Modern Life. This meeting was the beginning for fruitful cooperation and the following acquaintances, which made an invaluable contribution to the creation of "Sponge Bob".
In the spring of 2017, information was circulated in the media that Hillenberg was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. From that moment, Stephen went through a creative and life crisis because he felt like every day counts.
