The name corresponded to the name of his leader. It opened in 1885. The repertoire included light comedies, in the plot of which there was a love affair. Such a choice is a good way to solve financial problems and attract an inexperienced audience.
It was a theater equipped with the latest technology of the time. The rooms were lit by electricity, while even in the Bolshoi and Maly theaters there wasn’t such yet.
It used staged special effects, which were not anywhere else in the country at that time. It struck the imagination of viewers, critics and the press. And this is what brought great success to the theater. Awesome sound design for that time completed it.
Most of Korsh’s plays were successful and went on for years. Although there were often failures.
Very often, Korsh attended fashion productions in Europe, and then copied them in his theater. Sometimes even costumes and decorations were identical.
During the years of the establishment of Soviet power, the Korsh Theater was closed. The leader himself was repressed. The legendary Moscow Art Theater is located in its building.
