The first big novel by Stephen Edwin King, which brought success to the author, was “caught” from the bin by a prose writer’s wife. Her husband found the Carrie a bad experience and threw away the manuscript. Only thanks to the perspicacious Tabitha, who forced her second half to finalize and try to publish the work, the debut of the king of horrors took place even then. Almost immediately, the book was transferred to the big screen. Did it the current classic of cinema Brian de Palma. Despite his considerable age, "Carrie" is considered one of the best adaptations of the writer's works. Then there will be a lot of them. And in 1986, the only time King himself tried to occupy the director's chair. It was the movie "Maximum Acceleration." The man in the hat and glasses is the first character to appear in the frame. This is his automatic machine for issuing money and even called a nerd. This is Stephen. The author sometimes allows himself mini-roles in films to which he himself had a hand (one can recall the “Cemetery of Pets”, “Langoleri”, “Losing Weight”). “Maximum Acceleration” is a fantasy on the theme of the story “Trucks”, produced by the eminent Dino De Laurentis.
Rise of the Machines?
Our planet was affected by the tail of a huge comet, which caused terrible consequences.
The bridge connecting the two banks — two high-traffic interchanges — suddenly began to rise for no reason, making a real mishmash of cars, cargo, and corpses. But it was a warm-up, the maximum acceleration of the disaster is yet to come. Vending machines selling cigarettes and other trifles began to spew out their "insides", and then also beat them with electric current. A pump at a gas station "spat" in the face of a worker with a savory jet of diesel fuel and tried to burn out his eyes. An electric knife carnivorously bite into the hand of an unsuspecting waitress ... Cars that develop maximum acceleration and crush people indiscriminately became the "ringleaders" of all this mechanical lawlessness. The mechanical craziness is confronted by a small company, who took refuge in a roadside eatery near the very infuriated gas station.
Who will win?
By coincidence, a simple guy, William Robinson, one of the workers in the kitchen of the cafe, had to lead this little bulwark of the fight against crazy technology. His role was played by the actor, director, screenwriter, representative of the glorious creative dynasty Emilio Estevez. Two of the most famous Esteves are: the head of the family, Martin Sheen and his son Charlie Sheen (it is interesting that Charlie first appeared under his real name Carlos Esteves only this year in Rodriguez’s action movie “The Machete Kills”). Sister Emilio Rene and the other brother Ramon are also actors. Emilio, on the other hand, the audience remembered “Young Arrows” on the western; he starred in a parody of “Lethal Weapon” (“Loaded Weapon”).
Returning to the plot of the picture "Maximum Acceleration". So, people and cars, who will be more powerful in this martial art? And what kind of secret power is behind the revolt of mechanisms that previously served humanity properly? .. A little later, “Trucks” appeared, another movie interpretation of King's story. In some sources, it takes place as the movie “Maximum Acceleration 2,” although the work of director Chris Thomson is not a direct sequel to the predecessor movie. This project went almost unnoticed. Maybe because it lacked the charisma of the director-King and the impressive musical accompaniment of the immortal group "AC / DC", which gives the picture a truly maximum acceleration?
