The drug "Hepa-Merz" is a hepatoprotective agent. The medicine is available in the form of a concentrate for infusion solution and granules for the manufacture of a solution for oral administration.

The active substance L-ornithine-L-aspartate acts on the synthesis of glutamine and urea with the help of amino acids aspartate and ornithine. As a result of studies, it was found that increased synthesis of glutamine contributes to a decrease in ammonia content. In some cases, an improvement in the ratio of branched and aromatic amino acids was observed.

The drug improves the production of growth hormone and insulin, promotes protein metabolism against pathologies, in which parenteral nutrition is necessary .

Hepa-Merz medicine (powder for injection) is prescribed for chronic and acute liver diseases complicated by hyperazotemia (toxic lesions, fatty degeneration, cirrhosis, hepatitis). Indications also include hepatic encephalopathy (severe and latent), especially with combination therapy for disorders of consciousness (precoma or coma).

Granulate for the manufacture of a solution for oral administration, "Hepa-Merz", the instructions for use are recommended for violations in detoxification of the liver function (against the background of alcohol or overeating).

The granules are dissolved in 200 milliliters of liquid. It is recommended to take the Hepa-Merz agent by mouth three times a day after meals. The dosage in this case is three to six grams (one or two sachets).

Intravenous infusion of the drug "Hepa-Merz" instructions for use recommends to enter up to twenty grams per day (four ampoules). The drug concentrate is dissolved in 500 milliliters of the infusion solution. Patients with impaired consciousness (in a state of coma or precoma) are allowed to administer up to eight ampoules per day (taking into account the severity of the condition). It is recommended to dissolve no more than six ampoules per 500 milliliters of infusion solution.

The drip administration of the Hepa-Merz preparation recommends that the instructions for use be carried out at a rate of five grams per hour. The duration and frequency of infusion, as well as the duration of treatment, is set individually. In case of impaired liver function, the rate of administration should be adjusted in accordance with the condition of the patient to prevent nausea and vomiting.

In the treatment of children, the concentrate for the Hepa-Merz infusion solution is not used.

The drug is contraindicated in the severe phase of renal failure, hypersensitivity.

As practice shows, subject to the therapeutic dosage, the drug is well tolerated. Among the possible side effects when using the Hepa-Merz medication, the instructions for use note allergic reactions, nausea or vomiting (rarely). As a rule, the symptoms are short-lived and do not require discontinuation of treatment.

Despite the lack of information about the harmful effects of the drug in the prenatal period and during lactation, the appointment is carried out strictly according to indications. The condition of nursing and pregnant patients should be monitored by a specialist.

As clinical practice shows, the pathology itself, in which the Hepa-Merz preparation is used, negatively affects the ability to concentrate attention and control complex mechanisms or vehicles. Thus, in patients taking the medicine, this ability may also be impaired.
