Mexidol-Vet is a cerebroprotective, antioxidant and antihypoxant. It is used to treat animals with circulatory disorders in the brain of the head. The Mexidol-Vet instructions for use also mention an increase in the body's resistance to oxygen starvation (hypoxia, ischemia, shock conditions).
Release form and composition
The main component of the drug is ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate. In 1 unit of the drug contains 50 or 125 mg. During production, additional substances are added: lactose, potato starch, magnesium stearate (sometimes it is replaced with calcium). White clay and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose are added to Mexidol Vet (125 mg tablets).
The tablets have a round oblate shape with a slot (risk) in the middle with a mass of 0.3 g. Color can vary from white to cream.
Pack them in 10 units in packages with cells marked with contours. They come on sale in cardboard packages of 2 wipes (20 tablets).
The solution for injection has a colorless or yellowish tint.

Mexidol Vet also provokes mitochondria to generate energy and “turns on” enzyme systems, improving the transmission of nerve-type impulses in synapses.
Indications for use
At Mexidol Vet, the indications for use are extensive, it is prescribed for the complex treatment of a large number of pathologies.
These include:
- insufficiency of the cardiovascular and pulmonary appearance (in chronic and acute form);
- prevention of consequences in the postoperative period;
- diseases of the skin and its damage;
- therapy and prevention of stress associated with exhibitions or the departure of the owner;
- diseases of the brain of the head due to circulatory disorders or after injuries;
- infectious disease prevention.
Also, it is often prescribed to maintain health in aged individuals with diseases of the cardiovascular system, skin, joints and general weakness (loss of strength).
Contraindications
This drug can not be used for individual intolerance to the components that make up the composition. Another contraindication is pronounced pathology of the liver and kidneys.
Dosage and administration
The drug is given to dogs and cats after eating animals. Mexidol Vet is taken orally in a therapeutic dosage 2-3 times in 24 hours. The dose of the drug depends on the severity and type of disease. For example, in acute periods of illness, it is necessary to give 9-16 mg per 1000 g of pet weight. In the process of recovery, the amount of the drug is reduced to 4-7 mg per 1000 g of weight.
In the treatment of pulmonary and cardiovascular insufficiency, Mexidol Vet is prescribed 11-14 mg per 1000 g of pet weight 3 times in 24 hours. Treatment lasts 7 or 11 days. After this, the dose is reduced by half and the therapy is continued for another 12-14 days.
For the treatment of pathologies of a chronic type, doctors recommend a dosage of 4.5-6.5 mg per 1000 g of mass 2 times in 24 hours. Therapy is carried out in courses lasting 18-20 days at intervals of 60-80 days.
With prophylactic administration after anesthesia, Mexidol Vet is prescribed according to the following scheme. Before surgery for 48-72 hours and after during the same time 2 times in 24 hours, the dose is prescribed by the veterinarian.
