Lyudmila Valentinovna Berlinskaya is a well-known Russian and Soviet pianist and actress, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1996). At 17, Lyudmila Berlin entered the Moscow Conservatory. Continuing the concert, she performed with M. Rostropovich and Yu. Bashmet. For a long time she lived in Moscow, but in the early 90s she moved to Paris.
These years for Lyudmila were marked by the hard work of the accompanist - there were many performances in the prestigious halls of London, Amsterdam, Paris, Moscow, Venice, as well as participation in numerous festivals.
Personal life of a pianist
With her first husband, conductor Vladimir Ziva, Lyudmila Berlin met at Richter. From this union Dmitry Berlin was born, who later became a professional cellist, like his grandfather.
In the early 90s, the pianist settled in Paris with her second husband, Anton Matalaev, who was the first violin of the Anton Quartet. In 1991 they had a daughter, Maria Matalaeva. The husband died in 2002.
In 2011, the piano duo of Lyudmila Berlin was created with her third husband, the French pianist Arthur Ancel.
In 2012, they released their first joint disc dedicated to Tchaikovsky’s music, which received several awards.
In 2014, the second disc dedicated to Prokofiev’s ballets was released under the label “Melodies”. Since the collapse of the USSR, this is the first record of this company.
The pianist is also one of the greatest connoisseurs of Shostakovich’s music, including all his chamber music and little-known works.
