The drug "Dimexide." Application in anti-inflammatory therapy

There are many inflammatory diseases that Dimexidum effectively acts on. The use of this drug is based on its pharmacological properties.

The active basis of the medication is dimethyl sulfadoxide - a substance with a specific odor. Its crystals are hygroscopic. This substance is easily mixed in any ratio with alcohol and water.

The drug "Dimexide", the use of which is advisable as an anti-inflammatory agent (topically), in undiluted form or as a solution (10-70%) penetrates the skin and has an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiseptic effect. Release it in glass bottles with a volume of 40 to 120 ml.

Indications for use of this drug are: rheumatoid arthritis, deforming osteoarthritis, arthropathy, ankylosing spondylitis, sprain, swelling, bruises, traumatic infiltrates. For some other diseases, it is also recommended to take the drug "Dimexidum". Its use in abscesses, purulent wounds, osteomyelitis, streptoderma, erythema nodosum rather quickly eases the patient's condition. In the treatment of scleroderma, erysipelas, furunculosis, acne, it is prescribed with antimicrobial drugs. The drug "Dimexide", the use of which in combination with heparin is effective for thrombophlebitis, is most often used when applying applications.

There are such ways of using this drug:

- In the form of an aqueous 30-50% solution for compresses and tampons, which are applied to the affected area. With trophic ulcers and erysipelas, they are used 2-3 p. in a day.

- For eczema, diffuse streptoderma, pustular diseases, compresses with a 50-90% solution of Dimexidum are used.

- For local anesthesia, a 30-50% aqueous solution of 2-3 r. per day in the form of compresses applied to the affected areas.

- In plastic surgery, burn treatment use dressings soaked in 20-30% solution.

- In case of postoperative complications, the drug is applied to wounds and infiltrate.

- Dimexide electrophoresis is prescribed to ensure the best penetration of this substance through the skin. The amount of the drug entering the tissue in this case is up to 5% of its original volume. With electrophoresis, the greatest penetration depth of the drug and an increase in its therapeutic properties are noted.

The drug "Dimexide", the use of which usually does not cause serious consequences, is extremely rarely accompanied by side effects such as itching, erythema, dizziness, insomnia, dermatitis, adynamia, diarrhea, nausea, bronchospasm.

Contraindications: hypersensitivity, cardiovascular failure, angina pectoris, atherosclerosis, glaucoma, impaired liver and kidney function, coma, stroke, pregnancy, cataract, lactation. The drug "Dimexide", the use of which for the treatment of elderly people is very limited, is also contraindicated in patients under 12 years of age.

An overdose is possible only at very high concentrations. Symptoms: gastrointestinal disorders, headache, drowsiness.
