“Long Island” is a famous American cocktail, whose history goes back to the days of Prohibition, which was adopted in the USA in the 20s of the last century.
Alcoholic drinks were outlawed, but New York bartenders found a way out of this situation - they made a mixture, which, incidentally, is very strong in percentage of alcohol, and disguised it as an ordinary glass of cold black tea. Indeed, the real, full name of the cocktail - “Long Island Ice Tea” (Long Island Ice Tea) is translated from English: “Long Island,
iced tea”. Served in a tall glass filled to the brim with ice, this mix of a large variety of alcohol is poured with Coca-Cola so that you really won’t think that it is an illegal drink.
How to mix a cocktail
To feel like the hero of the films about the Great Depression and the American Dream, you will need the following ingredients for Long Island:
- 30 ml. white rum, best of all bacardi;
- 30 ml. gina;
- 30 ml. good vodka;
- 30 ml. tequila;
- 30 ml. Triple Sec Liquor or Cointreau;
- 60 ml. lime or lemon, it is better to take freshly squeezed;
- 30 ml. regular sugar syrup;
- Coca-Cola (or soda water, sprite, Pepsi and other soda);
- lemon slice for decoration.
Mix all the ingredients of the cocktail, except Coca-Cola, in a shaker and pour into the largest cocktail glass filled with ice. Top up with a fizzy drink of your choice and stir well with a stick. In conclusion, a piece of lemon can be attached to the edge of the glass. Be careful in using the Long Island mix, because, despite its sweet and sour taste and sufficient ease in the process of drinking, it contains a shock dose of alcohol. For those who follow a diet, it will be useful to find out that the energy value of a serving is about 300 kcal. However, it can be slightly reduced if you add sugar instead of the usual Coca-Cola and cook sugar syrup using sweeteners. By the way, the very first cocktail recipe consisted of whiskey and maple syrup, liqueurs appeared in subsequent, later versions. But, nevertheless, the American Bartenders Association considers the above method of preparation to be classic and reference.
Longer Alcohol Cocktail Recipe Option
To make the drink even more delicious and with fruity notes, you can slightly vary its composition and prepare the so-called radioactive version of the 30 ml cocktail. any raspberry liquor (you can take "Chambord" - Chambord), 30 ml. melon liquor, usually take "Midori", 30ml.
coconut liquor "Malibu", 30ml. Cointreau or
Triple Sec liqueur, 30ml. gin, 30 ml. rum, 30 ml. vodka and the same amount of tequila. Mix all the ingredients in a shaker, pour into a tall glass filled with ice, and top up with Coca-Cola. And a slice of lemon on the side of the glass will decorate Long Island, a photo of which you can see on the left. Attention, the strength of the contents is 31 degrees, and although it is slightly less than in the classical version due to the higher content of liquors, the drink should still be consumed in reasonable quantities. Using these recipes, you can fully experience the taste and mysterious atmosphere of America since the Great Depression.
