Billy Brown is an American actor. Best known for his television roles, especially for the popular TV series Dexter and How to Avoid Punishment for Murder, which is filmed to this day. In addition to filming movies and TV shows, he often works as a voice actor, has given voice to several cartoon characters and is the voice of commercials of the US Marine Corps.
Childhood and career start
Billy Brown was born on October 30, 1970 in Inglewood, California. He began his career as an actor in the late nineties, the first notable project was the Jurassic Park blockbuster Steven Spielberg, where the actor played a cameo role.
Over the next fifteen years, Billy Brown worked a lot as a voice actor, giving his voice to characters from more than ten computer games. Also began to star in small roles in popular TV series, among them the Courtney Cox project "Dirt", "Lascivious California", the police series "Southland" and "Think like a criminal."
TV roles
In 2011, Billy Brown received his first leading role on television. He entered the main cast of the boxing drama Extinguish the Light. The FX channel series was closed after the first season of thirteen episodes. In the same year, the actor received a regular role in the popular TV series Dexter, where he played detective Mike Anderson. This role brought Brown recognition and many new offers.
In 2013, he played in three episodes of the first season of the series "Followers", then he entered the main cast of the multi-part political thriller "Hostages", which however was soon closed by the channel due to not too high ratings.
In the last seasons of the popular TV series Sons of Anarchy, Billy Brown played a minor villain, Augustus Marx. In 2014, appeared in several episodes of the espionage series with Sean Bean in the title role of Legends.
However, it was the role in the series "How to Avoid Punishment for Murder" that became a real breakthrough for the actor. For four seasons, Billy Brown has been playing detective Nate Leichi, who is the love interest of the main character performed by Viola Davis. The series is a real hit and has recently been extended for the fifth season. Brown appeared in 53 episodes of the show of sixty.
At the same time, the actor continues to work in voice acting. In recent years, he took part in the creation of the animated series Transformers and Adventure Time, and also continued to work on advertising campaigns for the US Marine Corps.
Movie roles
On the big screen, the actor’s career so far is not as successful as on the small one. Among the films with Billy Brown, one can note the restart of the Star Trek franchise of 2009, where the actor appeared in a small role.
However, after the success of How to Avoid Punishment for Murder, Brown finally got his first starring role in a feature film. He played together with Taraji P. Henson in the action movie "Proud Mary", which, however, received low ratings from critics and viewers and showed himself poorly at the box office.
In the near future, the release of the drama "Worker" is planned, where together with Billy Brown, the main role will be played by Talia Shire, star of the films "The Godfather" and "Rocky".
