The drug "Aquadetrim": instructions for use

Aquadetrim is an aqueous solution of colecalciferol (vitamin D3), supplied in dark glass vials. This clear liquid also contains excipients: sucrose, flavor, gasoline alcohol and others. In 1 ml of the drug "Aquadetrim", the instructions for which provide comprehensive information about its composition, contains 15,000 IU of vitamin D3.

Colecalciferol is well absorbed, since it is a natural form of vitamin D for humans, synthesized in the body under the influence of sunlight. As you know, this vitamin is necessary for the formation of bone tissue: it is involved in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus salts from the intestines, in their transportation to the bones of the skeleton, and also regulates their excretion from the body by the kidneys. In addition, a sufficient level of vitamin D is important for the normal functioning of the immune system.

Normally, it should be enough for all vital processes, but a violation of its absorption or lack of diet, as well as insufficient exposure to the sun, can lead to osteomalacia - softening of bones in adults (in children - to rickets). In pregnant women, a violation of calcium metabolism caused by a deficiency of vitamin D can provoke convulsive attacks, as well as cause insufficient mineralization of the skeleton of the fetus. The need for this vitamin is increased in women in the postmenopausal period: hormonal changes in the body often lead to osteoporosis. How to take aquadetrim in certain conditions, and in which dose, can only be decided by a qualified specialist.

The advantage of an aqueous solution of vitamin D3 is that it is absorbed by the body much better than oily - especially when it comes to premature newborn babies. It is absorbed in the small intestine and accumulates in the kidneys and liver. The instructions attached to the drug "Aquadetrim" describe in detail the method of use and recommended doses of this substance, depending on the age and diagnosis of the patient.

As a prophylaxis of rickets, osteomalacia and osteoporosis, Aquadetrim is recommended in the following doses: for children from 4 weeks - 1-2 drops (500-1000 IU) per day. The same dose can be recommended for pregnant women (usually not earlier than from the 28th week of pregnancy), and during menopause. Premature infants or twins receive 2-3 drops (1000-1500 IU) per day. With the complex treatment of osteoporosis, rickets, or rickets-like diseases, the daily dose will, as a rule, already be larger - it depends on the specific diagnosis and severity of the disease. Despite its widespread use, aquadetrim can only be prescribed by a specialist who will accurately determine the recommended dose and duration of administration, taking into account the amount of vitamin D that the body receives with food. An overdose of the drug can lead to quite serious consequences, so you should not take it and, moreover, give it to children without consulting a doctor.

There are certain contraindications to the use of this drug, among which are hypersensitivity to its components, kidney disease, especially urolithiasis, tuberculosis and others. In addition, as the instructions accompanying the Aquadetrim preparation warns, it should not be given to children up to a month old, and it should also be prescribed with special care to pregnant and lactating women. Side effects of aquadetrim are rather unpleasant: it is the appearance of protein and white blood cells in the urine, and nausea, and dry mouth, and weight loss, and even mental disorders. An overdose of the drug, in addition to the described consequences, can lead to serious impaired renal function, vision problems and the development of soft tissue calcification. In such a situation, the reception is completely stopped and the patient is prescribed appropriate treatment. In especially severe cases, hospitalization may be recommended.
