In the middle of autumn 2017, NTV began broadcasting the continuation of the Nevsky series - the second season under the heading “Strength Test”. The television movie about the brave law enforcement officer went to prime time and had a positive momentum. Currently, all episodes of the Nevsky series (season 2) have no reviews, since only 22 episodes from 32 were submitted to the audience for review. Another 10 creators promise to finish in 2018.
Difference from the original project
The first season of the project did not get out of the line of usual procedures, although it carried away actor's work and refinement with productions, but by the end it lost its pressure significantly, losing its original intrigue.
As critics say in the reviews, season 2 of the Nevsky series eschews philosophical reasoning about morality, highlighting criminal squabbles with a detective line. To some, this position of the authors seems dubious, but to those viewers who prefer a movie about the difficult fate of heroes who find themselves in a difficult situation, the sequel will definitely like it.
This is evidenced by reviews of the available episodes, of which 23. The series "Nevsky" (season 2) reviews are mixed. The fact is that critics characterize the plot of the project as more gloomy, difficult, developing from bad events to worse. Many reviewers believe that the detective component sometimes gives way to a dramatic one, key characters go through all circles of hell of corruption, bribery, blackmail, mutual responsibility, werewolves in uniform and other things. As a result, an unpleasant aftertaste is caused by continued discrediting of law enforcement agencies of all ranks.
Description of the plot of the series
Events unfold over the year since the time when the main character, police major Pavel Semenov, managed to calculate and hold a previously elusive killer, nicknamed the Architect. However, success did not bring joy to the key character, because his companion, ex-partner Kirill Nazarov turned out to be a hit man.
Also, the existence of Semenov is complicated by personal tragedy. His wife Julia was attacked by two insane drug addicts and, defending herself, used a traumatic gun. As a result, one of the attackers died, the second testified against her. The court sentenced Julia to three years in prison in a penal colony.
Frustrated by the law enforcement system, Pavel leaves the police and goes to work as a taxi driver. He decides to spend more time with his little son. But fate has other plans. Soon, an attempt is made on his friend Alexei Fomin, and reliable information also pops up that the real Architect has not been caught. Semenov returns to service. As the reviews for season 2 of the Nevsky series say, the events heat up literally in episode 6 titled The Target, in which the major becomes the target of a contract kill.
Not fully meeting expectations
The “Nevsky” of the second coming was another victim of the disease, which all sequels are subject to - the syndrome of high expectations. After the intriguing episodes that aired in 2015, viewers were not completely prepared for the fact that in the “Strength Test” they were waiting for a slightly different pace of narration and emotional stress. It’s different - not only because of new characters, sometimes a different approach to the production (now the project removes three directors, unlike the first season), the scene or even the theme. The structure of investigations has changed, and it is much harder to accept for film fans.
Nevsky (2015) did not shine with the intrigue and sophistication of the detective line. The plot was quite predictable, but it struck with characters, thoughts and dialogues. The cult adaptation of criminal stories from J. Simenon and A. Christie was liked by the audience because each thoughtful layman could watch his own investigation and figure out the criminal before the movie climaxes. In the first season of “Nevsky” it was impossible, but in the second it is quite real. At this point, many critics focus on reviews of the Nevsky series (season 2).
Main intrigue
Throughout the narrative, the main intrigue associated with the identification of the Architect remains. But this line is not detective in the usual sense for the public. Of course, the main character follows the trail of a mysterious mercenary, in a meticulously dosed order, the authors give him evidence and fragmentary information, he ponders a lot, makes assumptions, interviews witnesses. But all this fuss openly loses comparison with the classics of Conan Doyle and the same Agatha Christie. Why, even the domestic Kamenskaya and Streets of Broken Lights sometimes spin up much more non-trivial things.
Acting Ensemble
The main cast of the 2 season of the series "Nevsky" is practically not criticized by the audience. The authors confidently declare that the casting has not lost its luster, and the characters' characters have definitely succeeded.
Two years ago, the creators of the project bribed the audience by taking on the roles of key characters in charismatic actors - Anton Vasiliev, Dmitry Palamarchuk, Alexander Kudrenko. Leading performers played their characters convincingly. This time, the authors captured the audience’s attention with unusual images, sometimes uncharacteristic for selected artists. For example, Andrei Kuznetsov, from whom an excellent exemplary FSBeshnik was obtained. Almost all the characters, even secondary ones, are played filigree. The project captivates with its heroes, the actors are definitely not ashamed of participating in this project.
Attention! Spoiler
According to reviews, 23 episode 2 of the season of the Nevsky series is the most anticipated among those broadcast. The fact is that in episode 22, Paul’s wife ends up in a prison cell. Pavel, trying to protect his beloved, goes to bow to the head of the colony. He confronts the hero with a choice - either he kills his friend Fomin, or Julia is rotted in the dungeons. But it is worth reassuring the worried viewer, episode 23 will not shed light on the current situation. You should wait for the release of 24 series. The reviews for season 2 of the Nevsky series promise a positive dilemma solution for Pavel, Julia and Fomin.
The creators of the project deliberately scattered the eternal conflicts within families, showed "disgusting" lawyers and sympathetic criminal authorities. At times, the narrative goes over to bored stamps, but it also surprises with unexpected twists.
The Russian television industry is currently on the rise, but individual projects emphasize that excellence has not yet been achieved. This means that there will be new pleasant surprises ahead of the domestic audience.
