Onion rings are one of the easiest to prepare and one of the cheapest treats. Recently, more and more beer lovers have given preference to this interesting snack, moving away from pistachios, peanuts and chips. And in cafes more and more often serve rings as a side dish instead of french fries.
What are these rings so fond of?
In many ways, the fact that preparing them is really very simple. You just need to mix the flour (about two tablespoons) with salt and pepper in one bowl - half a teaspoon each, and in the other - sour cream (about 150 grams) with two eggs and flour. You need to add so much flour so that the mass is not thick - about 3 tablespoons. Next, take the chips (which you like best) and crumble them. Turn on the oven 200 degrees.
The cooking process begins. Chop the onion as thick as you like, but in rings. It is better to take large bulbs - they are easier to cut and the rings are impressive. Then dip each ring in the first bowl, then in the second. We look so that the glass is all unnecessary, sprinkle with chips - and put it on a baking sheet. Better if there is baking paper on the baking sheet. Lubricate it with vegetable oil (just a little so that the rings do not stick to the paper), and you donβt have to wash anything, you can safely start using the cooked. Onion rings will be baked for approximately 5-8 minutes on each side until a golden crust appears. As soon as it forms, it can be removed. You can cook some sauce and dip the rings into it, you can pour gravy if the rings are served as a side dish. And you can eat just like that, they turn out very tasty and without anything.
There is another way to cook onion rings - in batter. The dough, in which we will dip the rings, many cook on beer. So it turns out more airy and voluminous. If you do not want volume, use ordinary water instead of beer. To do this, mix some beer with flour, salt, pepper, eggs and vegetable oil. You can add garlic, passed through the press, to taste. Beat everything with a blender until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Next, you need to heat the vegetable oil in a pan - as if we were going to fry french fries. Carefully lower the onion rings, which we previously dipped in the batter. The preparation time for such rings is about five minutes, then they turn out to be crispy and very tasty. However, if you like a paler crust, you can get them earlier. If you have a deep fryer, itβs still easier, it will take about 1-2 minutes.
I must say that in the first case, when we used the oven, and in the second, you need to put the rings first on the baking paper, and then serve - so it absorbs excess oil.
It is advisable to serve onion rings to beer immediately, otherwise they may get wet and will not crunch. But still remain delicious.
Many add starch to the dough (about three tablespoons), but such rings are more suitable for a side dish.
How to make onion rings for a side dish
There are no fundamental differences between these rings and the snack version. It is only recommended to use breadcrumbs instead of chips so that the taste of chips does not interrupt the taste of the main dish. And instead of sour cream, it is better to take unsweetened yogurt or some fermented milk product - kefir, for example. Onion rings are best suited for fish and meat dishes.
A dish, despite its simplicity, can be made very, very unusual if you are creative in cooking. All kinds of spices, spice mixtures, all kinds of additions - all this can make an ordinary beer snack your business card. And, of course, to drink a beer with rings prepared in your kitchen is much nicer than with purchased chips.
